Ways of Old Ireland - Including the arts and crafts of yesteryear
Ways of Old Ireland - Including the arts and crafts of yesteryear.
This video looks at a selection of crafts and trades synonymous with Ireland's past. We drop in on a thatcher at work, re-roofing a traditional Irish cottage and then we have a look at the now little used skill of tinsmithing.
Through this video we look at broom making, making charcoal, a blacksmith shoeing a horse, hedging, making walking sticks and we see one of the few hand weaver left in the country weaving Irish linen.
As well as the old trades and crafts this DVD also features modern day rural practises such as farming, cheese and butter production at a local creamery as well as a visit to a forestry where timber is grown and fashioned into wood for joinery.
We have a feature piece on the laying of the new Murphy pipeline which is bringing piped gas from the North sea to the rural communities in Northern Ireland. We hope that this video will give a glimpse into the rural activities of old Ireland and capture these on film for future generations.
Running time of this DVD is 70 minutes and has been produced by John Thompson Video productions.
